Notes: Our river is stocked with fresh trout and is a recognised Salmon run. The fishing rights in bygone days belonged to our neighboring Ballynahinch Castle. Ballynahinch currently provides some of the best fresh water fishing & shoots available in Europe. Boundary fencing provides a break between the river and immediate garden. The river also forms the boundary to Connemara National Park. Pony trekking is very popular and excellent stables are within easy reach in Ballyconneely. A beautiful walk to 'Lough Fadda', ie. long lake, is immediately outside and towards the right of "Cuach Cottage". This is an inspiring and very peaceful hours walk before dinner. There is also excellent fishing here, fresh water trout and some salmon, however, a license is required. My own licence is available to visitors FOC. Rambling within the confines of 'Cuach Cottage' is a must, as it sits on 4 acres of paddocked gardens, or just simply sitting by the river, reading a book, listening to the sounds, enjoying the scenery, and wildlife. The CUCKOO arrives in April, enjoy his song. Bring your sketch pad, you wont be disappointed. Rustic seating is provided alongside the river, as is an 8 seated patio table close by.
